NOW HIRING Maintenance Mechanic III Glenbard Wastewater Authority DESCRIPTION: The Glenbard Wastewater Authority ("the Authority") is recruiting for an entry-level (full-time) Maintenance Mechanic III position. The purpose of this position is to perform a limited variety of skilled and semi-skilled tasks in the preventative maintenance, repair, and replacement related activities at its advanced treatment facilities, including work on plant machinery, conveyor systems, piping systems, buildings, vehicles, and grounds; and to provide responsive, courteous, and efficient service to the residents of the Villages of Lombard and Glen Ellyn and the general public. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: - Perform planned preventative maintenance on plant machinery and equipment in order to improve equipment life and avoid unplanned maintenance activities. - Perform routine plant preventive and corrective maintenance on plant machinery and equipment including: inspection for heat, sound, vibration, odor, cleanliness; oiling and greasing; participate in minor repairs and equipment installations under supervision as required. - Observe variation in equipment operating conditions; interpret meter and gauge reading; report malfunctions; and use knowledge and experience to take appropriate immediate corrective action, or recommend potential remedies to the Maintenance Superintendent when required. - Assist in maintaining an inventory of tools, equipment, parts, and perform requisition of parts and materials as necessary for maintenance activities. - Assist with inspecting and maintaining plant safety equipment including: confined space equipment, self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA), fire extinguishers, and emergency eyewash stations; submit safety suggestions; participate as a member of the Plant Safety Committee on a rotating basis. - Assist Operational and Electrical employees as assigned by the Maintenance Superintendent. - Participate in "Permit and Non-Permit Required" confined space entry training under supervision. - Operate vehicles and heavy equipment as required. QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must have a high school diploma or equivalent, in addition to one (1) year of previous wastewater treatment plant, water treatment plant or industrial plant maintenance experience and/or demonstrated competence in mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems by means of one (1) year work experience. Possession of or ability to obtain a Class 4 - IEPA Wastewater Operator Certification within one (1) year of hire. Must also have a valid driver's license at the time of application; must obtain a Class A CDL within six (6) months of employment. Possession of or ability to obtain, certification in the use of a respirator and self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA), and permit confined space entry is required. Qualified applicants should demonstrate the ability to define problems and exercise good judgment and think quickly under both routine and emergency situations; the ability to develop positive working relationships with the general public, vendors, and coworkers is also a critical skill set. The ability to operate various types of heavy-duty tools and equipment is a plus.
